In a step towards expanding access to preventive healthcare in rural areas, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, organised a two-day eye screening camp in Laxmipur block through its Kodingamali (KDM) operations, in partnership with LV Prasad Eye Institute, Rayagada. Held at CHC Laximpur and the Odiapentha Gram Panchayat, the camp provided comprehensive eye examinations to nearly 200 residents from nearby villages contributing to the company’s effort towards the development of Rayagada.

During the screening, several beneficiaries were diagnosed with cataract and pterygium-related conditions, both of which can lead to vision impairment if left untreated, individuals requiring advanced medical intervention were counselled and referred for further treatment. Patients diagnosed with cataract and pterygium will be provided surgical treatment at LV Prasad Eye Institute, Rayagada, while beneficiaries with refractive errors will receive corrective spectacles to improve their vision and overall quality of life.

The camp was inaugurated by Shri Jhina Hikaka, former Member of Parliament, Koraput, in the presence of the CHC in-charge and medical staff, the Sarpanch of Odiapentha Gram Panchayat, community representatives, and local residents.

Speaking on the initiative, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO, Alumina Business, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Good health is fundamental to individual well-being and community progress. Access to quality healthcare services remains a key focus of our social development efforts. Through initiatives such as this eye screening camp, we aim to facilitate early diagnosis, timely treatment, and improved healthcare access for rural communities, enabling them to lead healthier and more productive lives.”

Dunguru Mandinga from Kenduwada village, Odiapentha Gram Panchayat said, “I had been living with poor eyesight for a long time, making everyday tasks difficult. Through Vedanta Aluminium’s eye screening camp, I received cataract surgery and regained clear vision. This support has brought new light, confidence, and hope into my life, and I sincerely thank Vedanta Aluminium for making it possible.”

VAML continues to undertake a range of healthcare initiatives across its operational regions, including health camps, awareness programmes, maternal and child healthcare support, and specialised medical interventions. These efforts reflect the company’s broader commitment to strengthening community well-being, rural development and advancing inclusive development in rural and remote areas.
