In view of the developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal and the possibility of cyclone-related impacts in southern Odisha, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has strengthened its preparedness to safeguard electrical infrastructure, ensure consumer safety and restore power supply promptly following disruptions.

The company has activated its Business Continuity and Disaster Management Plan, with emergency manpower, materials and response mechanisms organised across its operational areas.

As per the preparedness assessment, 6,474 personnel are included in the division-wise deployment plan, comprising 5,691 Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) personnel and 783 TPSODL employees. Additionally, around 800 skilled and unskilled project personnel are available, with another 400 personnel on standby. Manpower from other TP Odisha distribution companies may also be mobilised if required.

For emergency restoration, TPSODL has arranged six mobile distribution substations and 358 vehicles. Available materials include 32 power transformers, 862 distribution transformers, 2,814 km of bare conductors, 516 km of LT aerial-bunched cables, 95 km of HT XLPE cables and 10,660 poles. Another 7,355 poles are available through vendors. The company has also stocked essential equipment, including tree pruners, lighting systems and DG sets, supported by 16 transit stores and five main stores.

The Central Emergency Control Centre at Ambagada, Berhampur, will coordinate round-the-clock monitoring and emergency response. SCADA facilities enable monitoring of 254 out of 261 primary substations, supported by control centres at Jeypore, Rayagada and Bhanjanagar.

Customer communication has been strengthened through SMS alerts, voice messages, multilingual social media updates and digital complaint-booking facilities.

TPSODL CEO Amit Kumar Garg said consumer and employee safety remained the top priority, with restoration to begin as soon as conditions were safe. He urged people to follow official advisories and maintain caution around electrical installations during heavy rain and strong winds.

Consumers can report electricity-related emergencies through the 24×7 toll-free helplines 1912 and 1800-2026. The NPS missed-call complaint-booking facility is available at 9777774699.
