Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Tuesday inaugurated the Shakti Summit in Bhubaneswar, bringing together senior officials from 22 States and Union Territories to strengthen collective action on women’s safety, protection and empowerment.
Addressing the inaugural session as Chief Guest, Parida stressed the need for an integrated approach, saying that women’s safety and empowerment must go hand in hand through strong institutions, effective implementation and collective responsibility. She said the Summit provides an important platform for States and the Centre to learn from one another, strengthen convergence and ensure safety, dignity and opportunities for every woman.
The Summit has been organised by the National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with the Government of Odisha. It aims to share best practices, identify implementation gaps and develop effective strategies for strengthening institutional mechanisms for women’s safety and empowerment.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar highlighted the need for sustained collective action and stronger institutional mechanisms. NCW Member Secretary Sudeep Jain, Women and Child Development Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr. Mrinalini Darswal and Mission Shakti Secretary Manasi Nimbhal were present.
A total of 29 senior officers from 22 States and UTs are participating. The deliberations will focus on successful interventions, implementation mechanisms and institutional collaboration to address emerging challenges concerning women’s safety and protection.
