More than 90 folk artists representing the rich cultural heritage of Ganjam district had the honour of meeting President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday.
Led by Ganjam District Collector V. Keerthi Vasan, artists from five prominent cultural troupes visited the Rashtrapati Bhavan following a special invitation from the President. During her recent visit to Ganjam, the President had witnessed captivating tribal and folk dance performances at Taptapani and was impressed by the district’s vibrant cultural traditions.
The visiting troupes included Maa Dandakali Group, Sanrachana Group, Tulasi Group, Gouranga Basudev Nama Sankirtan Mandali and Saura Traditional Cultural Natya Sangha.
During her interaction with the artists, President Murmu appreciated Ganjam’s rich folk and tribal traditions, particularly the cultural heritage of the Saura community. She stressed the collective responsibility to preserve and promote the invaluable cultural traditions inherited from ancestors.
The President advised young artists to pursue their studies sincerely, become self-reliant and strive for excellence in every field. “Whatever work you do, strive for excellence,” she advised.
The artists described the meeting and their interaction with the President as an unforgettable experience. The delegation was accompanied by Additional Sub-Collector Partha Sarathi Hansda, District Culture Officer Aditi Acharya and other district officials.
