Crop Insurance Registration Simplified

Crop Insurance Registration Simplified

Paperman Media ( Bhubaneswar )- The Odisha Government has emphasised simplification of the registration process under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), assuring farmers that eligible sharecroppers can also enrol for crop insurance.

The Cooperation Department clarified that both loanee and non-loanee farmers, as well as sharecroppers cultivating notified crops in notified areas, are eligible for crop insurance. It said reports suggesting that sharecroppers have no provision for registration are misleading and may create unnecessary confusion among farmers.

The department stated that the registration process has been simplified to bring sharecroppers and landless cultivators under the ambit of crop insurance. Eligible sharecroppers can register by providing the required details along with the acknowledgement/consent of the landowner of the plot they cultivate.

The Government is coordinating with the Cooperation and Agriculture departments, banks, insurance companies and grassroots-level institutions to expedite registration and provide necessary assistance to farmers.

To ensure that no eligible farmer is deprived of crop insurance coverage, the registration deadline for the current Kharif season has been extended from July 31 to August 15, 2026.

The department urged farmers not to believe misleading reports or rumours and advised them to complete their registration within the stipulated period by contacting their nearest PACS, LAMPS, cooperative bank, any bank branch or Common Service Centre (CSC).
