The Central University of Odisha (CUO), Koraput, celebrated its 18th Foundation Day at its Main Campus, Sunabeda, with a focus on education, science, skills, discipline and nation-building.
The programme began with the National Song and hoisting of the CUO flag by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ajit Kumar Shasany. Messages of the President of India and the Governor of Odisha were also read out on the occasion. A coffee table book, “CUO at a Glance”, highlighting the university’s academic profile and achievements, was released.
Chief Guest Prof. Hirendranath Ghosh, Director, NISER, Bhubaneswar, urged students to prioritise studies, discipline and a balanced lifestyle instead of excessive mobile phone use. He stressed the importance of basic sciences and scientific institution-building and expressed hope that CUO would emerge among India’s top ten Central Universities. He also highlighted the contribution of scientists from rural and tribal backgrounds.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shasany called for holistic and skill-based education, integration of science with literature, and greater use of AI and the region’s tribal and biodiversity strengths. He envisioned taking CUO to the global stage, increasing student strength to 5,000 and strengthening its Skill Centre.
Padma Shri Gobardhan Panika, Prof. Hrushikesh Senapaty and MLA Raghuram Macha also addressed the gathering.
